Diesel Pickup Specialists

6/25/2016

This past Saturday the NWDC teamed up with Diesel Pickup Specialists (DPS Diesel) of Worland, WY to

host their annual dyno event and the first Dirt Drag event of the 2016 season. Since diesel trucks are

such a popular mainstay in most of Wyoming, it was no surprise to see the large spectator and

competitor turnout for the event. With 40 trucks making it across that chassis dyno for testing and half

that entering the Dirt Drags, the day couldn’t have gone any better. The DPS shop truck made an

exhibition run on the dyno and broke quad digits, with 1088hp, but the hood-stacked Power Wheels

powered Dodge dually that came across the rollers had to be the highlight of the show.

Heavy hitters at the event included Dmitri Millard who had the 2300hp Katrina out competing on both

the dyno and dirt drags. Putting down the highest number of the day at 1870hp, and a fuel only pass of

1645hp, Katrina took home first place in Big Twin and Open dyno classes. Verlon Southwick has made it

to a few of our NWDC events this year and placed second in Big Twin with 1076hp and second in Small

Twin with his tow rig making 755hp. The first place spot in Small Twin went to Nick Cross with a

monstrous 982hp. Single turbo classes had a pretty strong turnout as well with Red Cruikshank making

663hp for top spot in Small Single and Shepher Cortez making 648hp in Big Single. Stock classes were

won by Adam Day’s 668hp for Ford, Trent Nickerson’s 481hp for Dodge and Ben Nehl’s 554hp for GM.

In Dirt Drags, Dmitri Millard and Nick Cross went head to head in the Modified class with Nick Cross

coming out on top with a 6.9-second run. In the Open class, Verlon Southwick battled the Catamax

truck, with Southwick edging out the win at 6.39-seconds. In the 2wd/Manual class, Lance Smith and

Kody Pulliam made it to the final round with Smith winning at 8.3-seconds. The Stock Turbo class was

won by Wade Newton with a best pass of 6.95-seconds. Looks for more Dirt Drag events at upcoming

NWDC shows around the circuit and make sure you get your name into the pot, these are a total blast to

compete in against your toughest buddies.
