Adrenaline Truck Performance Dyno Event

After a successful dyno event last year, Rob Coddens, owner of Adrenaline Truck Performance, was looking to make it even bigger and better for his second annual one. The crew at ATP succeeded in their quest on Saturday, May 16 and it started by teaming up with the Northwest Dyno Circuit.

“This year went very smooth with probably close to 50 percent more trucks than last year,” said the ATP owner, best known as Idaho Rob. “With the two dynos and the live feed, after seeing how organized it was this year I’m glad to be included in the circuit.”

The ATP in-house dyno was on one side with the Custom Auto portable dyno on the other, with “vendor row’ with companies like Edge, Bully Dog and others in the middle which made for the ideal setup.

“The layout in the parking lot was perfect for the event,” added Monte Stark. “I know it’s just going to continue to grow as we make more of an effort to include the general public with our events.”

While the majority of the crowd was on hand to see if Dmitri Mallard was going to either break the 2,000 horsepower barrier with his 2003 Duramax or just create some type of an explosion, it was the sleeper trucks then ended up stealing the show. (Although Dmitri’s number of 1850hp in the Unlimited Class still earned plenty of cheers)

Matt Schwartz from Grangeville, Idaho, in his stock-looking 2003 Ram turned more than a few heads when he put up 777hp in the Modified Single Class.

“I was shooting for 800hp, but I’m happy with that number,” said the Cummins owner. “ATP did the tuning, but I’ve done most of the work myself.”

Taylor Brendle ended up taking first in this class with his 2001 Silverado (980hp) out of the 14 trucks who entered.

Stock Diesel was another popular class where just 45hp was the difference between first (Tyler Urquhart’s 2004 Ram at 554hp) and fourth place. In the Stock Diesel 6.4L class Justin Cummings at 570hp took first with his 2009 Power Stroke.

Mallard and his 2003 Duramax took first in the Compound Turbos class once again with 1784hp on fuel-only, which was over 400hp greater than Idaho Rob’s 2002 Duramax which came in at a very impressive 1364hp.

The classes were competitive and everyone seemed to have a good time, which meant another successful day on the Northwest Dyno Circuit tour.

“Overall, the event went really well,” said NWDC Director Brandon Pierce. “They had a lot of people come out with a lot of trucks to dyno. Its awesome to see new events grow so quickly, and being a part of it is pretty cool too! We look forward to working with ATP again. This is an awesome company to work with.”

Adrenaline Truck Performance is located in Meridian, Idaho, and specializes in diesel truck performance tuning, parts and accessories. The owner took his experience from gas powered bracket racing, sand drags, mud racing and his years as a motorcycle road racing privateer and started racing diesel trucks in 2004.

Idaho Rob used his daily driver work truck initially and quickly found a huge void of knowledge about how to make diesel trucks go fast without spending a fortune. Today, diesel enthusiasts come from hundreds of miles just to have Rob tune their truck and work with the ATP crew.

“It was great to finally meet the infamous ‘Idaho Rob’ from ATP,” said Pierce. “He’s one of the nicest ‘tuners’ I’ve come across, and he has some great guys working with him.”

For the second straight year, a raffle benefiting the Wyakin Warrior Foundation (www.wyakin.org) was once again held. It’s a locally grown foundation but with national support to help enable severely wounded and injured post 9/11 veterans achieve personal and professional success as business and community leaders.  

Following the dyno, prizes exceeding over $3,000 in cash was awarded to the winners of each class. The circuit rolls on next week with a “double-header” with the RKL dyno event in Springville, Utah, being held along with the BD Diesel Challenge at BD Power headquarters in Abbotsford, Canada. The Diesel Tech magazine 6.4L project truck will once again be on display at the BD Power dyno event.
