Driver Highlight - Meet Cam Hulse

It’s hard to predict which trucks will finish on top in the inaugural season of the Northwest Dyno Circuit, but if the owner of Adrenaline Performance in Shelley, Idaho, has it his way, it will be his 2005 2500 Duramax that he’s changed nearly everything on it.

“It’s a single cab and not much was left stock at all,” says Cam Hulse.

The diesel shop owner grew up in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and now lives in nearby Shelley with his wife Tara and their two sons. The first truck he ever built for himself was a 2004 Duramax that he completed in 2006 and it ended up taking first place in the Chevy class that year at the Bully Dog event.

“Let’s just say that truck was heavily-modified,” says Cam with a grin. “It was also the first Allison transmission I ever built too.”

Cam worked out of his garage for years on the side and would eventually leave his day job at a diesel shop to start Adrenaline Performance. The business grew from a small storage unit to his current facility, which continues to turn out some high horsepower trucks in eastern Idaho.

People attend and participate in dyno events for different reasons, but Cam comes to see how his truck measures up and to compare his truck to others. Even though it’s still early in the season, it’s Cam’s truck that’s getting noticed by others.

“Dyno events are extremely important to this industry and that’s why we do one every year,” says Cam who holds a dyno even the first weekend in June at his shop. “It also gives people an idea of what we really do.”

Cam plans to attend most of the dyno events on the circuit this summer, which of course will improve his chances of winning his class based on the current point system. Some of the events will be quite a drive for him, but the one on June 6 should be an easy one for him to attend. The NWDC will be coming to his shop so for at least one weekend, he’ll get a chance to be the host.
